Mutant rats

Kmeny mutantní potkanů

Athymic Nude
Hsd:RH-Foxn1rnu
Hsd:RH-Foxn1rnu/Foxn1+

Hooded (pigmented). Derived from animals obtained from the Rowett Research Institute, Aberdeen, Scotland.

Characteristics

  • Rnu allele on chromosome 10 is an autosomal recessive mutation associated with hairlessnes and thymic aplasia
  • The thymus-dependent lymph node areas are depleted of lymphocytes (T-cells)
  • Phenotypically hairless (sparse hair growth possible)
  • Rudimentary thymic tissue
  • Increased Natural Killer (NK) cell population
  • Foxn1rnu/Foxn1+ heterozygotes do not show partial expression of rnu phenotype

Research use

  • Oncology
  • Immunology
  • Xenograft and allograft transplantation

Zucker

HsdOla:ZUCKER-Leprfa/Leprfa
HsdOla:ZUCKER - (lean)

Black, brown, brown/white, black/white. Derived from a colony obtained in 1992 from Hoffmann-la-Roche, Nutley, New Jersey.

 Additional related genotypes:

HsdHlr:ZUCKER-Leprfa/Lepr+ (code H195)

HsdHlr:ZUCKER-Lepr+/Lepr+ (code W195)

* Genetic testing (at additional cost) is required to determine Leprfa/Lepr+ or Lepr+/Lepr+ genotype.

Characteristics

  • Leprfa/Lepr+ heterozygotes do not show partial expression of fa phenotype
  • fa is an autosomal recessive mutation on chromosome 5
  • Exhibit obesity at 4-5 weeks of age
  • Animals have not been selectively bred to induce hyperglycemia
  • Insulin-resistant
  • Adipocyte hypertrophy and hyperplasia
  • Hyperphagia
  • Muscle atrophy
  • Hyperlipemic
  • Hypercholesterolemia
  • Hyperinsulinemia

Research use

  • Genetix obesity
  • Diabetes Type 2

Other available data

  • Hematology
  • Clinical chemistry
  • 12-week growth
