Bacteriology

Various methods are used to detect pathogenic and opportunistic pathogenic microflora present in laboratory animals. The prevalence of bacteria is detected by culture on both basic and selective-diagnostic microbiological media in aerobic, microaerophilic and anaerobic conditions. Microscopic examination and biochemical characterization of colonies are performed after isolation of microorganisms in pure culture. Where appropriate, molecular biology methods (PCR, real-time PCR, sequencing) are used in diagnostics. Serological methods and special histological staining of target tissues are also included to identify certain bacteria. Identification of all opportunistic bacteria is accompanied by a professional commentary.
